This is a forum for St. Lawrence University philosophers (current and past students and faculty) to discuss philosophical issues.

Dennett made a very provocative comment when asked whether the strong AI thesis (conscious and intelligent machine-beings) is tenable: "The best reason for believing that robots might some day become conscious is that we human beings are conscious, and we are a sort of robot ourselves." Is what it is to be human (another great question) reducible, in principle, to either a formal system or a physical system which can be modeled scientifically? If not, why?
My burning philosphical question: how to live life well -- what is a well-lived life?
